I love being able to give my brother his kids back when the weekend is over.

I'm sitting in the living room at my brother's house and he's upstairs in the baby's room, trying to get her to go to sleep. I can hear him humming the first verse of Silent Night, you know "All is calm, all is bright/Round yon Virgin Mother and Child/Holy Infant, so tender and mild/Sleep in heavenly peace" and it is just breaking me.

I got to properly meet my niece today and I can't get over how tiny she is. My brother wanted to give Anneke some attention so Seb asked if I'd sit with Lang until he gets back. I'm happy to be here, but I don't really feel like I'm helping her much. I think I'm probably more use to them by entertaining Anneke.

Well, Anneke spilled the beans on this, but I think that's probably for the better. Before Lang was hospitalized, she had wanted to do some work on Anneke's bedroom to make room for Steve. They've... There are good days and there are the kinda okay days. And then there are the days like today where you just want to throw your hands up and walk away.

After my brother took Anneke home tonight, I sat there with Lang and all I could do was watch as reality set in on her. 17 years is a long time. Half my life. And more, if you get down to decimals. She'll always be my sister, whether she's married to my brother or not. I just feel so helpless in all of this. And I feel caught in the middle.
